Not A Camera Man…A Camera Woman

  • I filmed my first wedding approximately seven years ago quite by accident. At the time I was predominantly working as a field camera person on events such as Commonwealth Game, The Sydney Royal Easter Show and more A-League/NRL Grand Finals than I care to remember. The big misconception about these sorts of jobs is that  as exciting as they appear to be, they are often very thankless and not that creative. You are nothing more than a small part in a big machine with  a director screaming in your earpiece with someone screaming in theirs and so forth.

It was during this time that an associate I worked with had a friend who knew someone who was getting married and their wedding videographer had pulled out at the last minute. Consequently my colleague asked if I could fill in for the day. My first response was “Sure. Why Not. How hard could it be?” So I off I went to film my first wedding. I make no excuses about the fact I love working with cameras and have been fortunate enough to have filmed for a lot of big events but I wasn’t really prepared for the first wedding. It was like a running a marathon and riding a roller coaster at the same time. Exciting, terrorfying and exhausting. It was a very steep learning curve teaching me that wedding videography was an art form different from any other camera work I had done previously and not something to be underestimated or taken lightly. However at the end of the day…really rewarding.

  • Seven years on, and that fist wedding has turned into a thriving boutique business, run by myself and my husband/business partner who also runs our corporate and broadcast company (Dojo Media) We now have a select team of camera people dedicated to their art of cinematography.

  • I sincerely wish you all the best with the planning of your day.

What is a Wedding Videographer?

Surprisingly, that's a question I am asked quite a lot. I always reply that its the job of the videographer to capture all those special human moments that can often fall between the cracks of the day.
You have your photographer who will get you to stand here and there and smile etc, however its your Wedding Videographer who is going to catch that little peck on the cheek or that joke from the best man and all those other quiet memories that you will hold dear in years to come.
